Google has opened pre-orders for Googlebook, a new category of premium laptops with built-in Gemini features and deep integration with Android phones.

The first devices are made by Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with prices starting at $899. The laptops arrive in US stores on October 4, 2026, followed by Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on October 5.

Googlebook is not simply a new name for Chromebook. Google positions it as a separate flagship category that combines Android and ChromeOS technologies, Google Play apps, the desktop version of Chrome and new Gemini tools.

What is Googlebook?

Google introduced the Googlebook concept in May 2026 and opened pre-orders for the first production models on September 21.

The software platform is built on the Android technology stack and uses desktop foundations from ChromeOS. This gives Googlebook access to Google Play apps, the desktop-class Chrome browser with extensions and tools for working with an Android phone.

Google describes Googlebook as the first laptop category designed specifically for Gemini Intelligence. AI is integrated into the desktop, pointer, voice input, file search and task management.

How is Googlebook different from Chromebook?

According to Google’s explanation, Chromebooks continue to run ChromeOS and remain a separate category of simple and affordable laptops for everyday tasks.

Googlebooks target the premium segment and offer:

  • more powerful Intel and Qualcomm processors;

  • at least 16 GB of RAM;

  • high-resolution touchscreens;

  • premium aluminium, magnesium and carbon-fiber construction;

  • built-in Gemini tools;

  • direct access to Google Play apps;

  • deeper integration with Android phones;

  • dedicated Google Titan security hardware;

  • up to ten years of software updates.

Google is not discontinuing Chromebooks. The two categories will exist alongside each other, but Googlebooks will compete in the same higher-priced market as Windows laptops and MacBooks.

The first Googlebook models and prices

The initial lineup includes five devices. The official Googlebook store lists the following starting prices and specifications:

Acer Googlebook 14 — from $899

The laptop has a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It is the only convertible in the first lineup, with a display that rotates through 360 degrees.

ASUS Googlebook 14 — from $1,299

This model includes a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, Intel Core Ultra 5, 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It weighs approximately 2.2 pounds, or one kilogram.

Dell XPS Googlebook — from $999

Configurations, prices and availability may vary by country and retailer.

Gemini features on Googlebook

Googlebooks include several tools designed specifically around AI.

Magic Pointer activates Gemini when the user quickly wiggles the pointer. Text, images or other content can then be selected and sent to Gemini for an explanation, comparison, translation or related action.

For example, Gemini can move a training schedule from a web page into Google Calendar, examine a suspicious email or combine multiple images without requiring separate downloads and uploads.

Rambler turns spoken notes into structured writing. It removes filler words, corrects mistakes and creates headings, lists and summaries. The feature also supports switching languages while speaking.

Create My Widget lets users build desktop widgets from a written description without coding. A user could request a widget that follows a sports team or counts down to an upcoming trip.

Availability of individual features depends on the country, language, user’s age and laptop model.

How Googlebook works with an Android phone

Android integration is one of Googlebook’s main features. Some cross-device tools require a phone running Android 17 or later.

During setup, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, messages and selected settings can be transferred from the phone to the laptop.

Three major cross-device features are available:

  • Continue On lets a user start a task on a phone and resume it on the laptop;

  • Quick Access provides access to phone photos and files without manually transferring them;

  • Cast My Apps opens apps running on the phone inside a desktop window on Googlebook.

This makes it possible to use a delivery app, check messages or continue editing a project without switching back to the phone.

Apps and games

Googlebook provides access to millions of apps through Google Play. Android apps can be installed directly on the laptop, while compatible phone apps can be streamed without installation.

Google highlights software including Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, CapCut, Canva, Notion, Microsoft 365, Dropbox, Netflix and Spotify.

Mobile games are available through Google Play. Larger PC titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Counter-Strike 2 can be streamed using GeForce NOW. Game and service availability varies by country, and some titles require separate subscriptions.

Developers also get an isolated Linux environment with full terminal access for working with repositories, command-line tools and app-development platforms.

Security and updates

The laptops include a dedicated Google Titan C or Titan C2 chip, depending on the model. It helps protect the device, passwords and personal information.

Googlebooks support fingerprint authentication, while selected models also include facial recognition.

Google promises up to ten years of Googlebook OS updates, including security fixes and regular feature drops.

What is included with Googlebook?

Eligible buyers receive 12 months of Google AI Pro, including Gemini tools and 5 TB of cloud storage.

Limited-time offers are also available for YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, CapCut, Luminar, BandLab and GeForce NOW. Exact terms depend on the country, account and activation date.

When will Googlebook go on sale?

Pre-orders for the first models are now open. Retail availability begins:

  • October 4, 2026, in the United States;

  • October 5 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.

The $899 starting price and premium specifications show that Googlebook is not intended to replace inexpensive Chromebooks. The new category is aimed primarily at Android users who want a powerful laptop with deep Gemini, Google Play and smartphone integration.
