The JPEG XL Image Extension enables Windows to view and save files that use the .jxl file extension.

This package is made possible thanks to the libjxl open source project (https://github.com/libjxl/libjxl).

PLEASE NOTE – the extension is NOT an app – you cannot interact directly with it. It installs a plug-in used by Windows apps, such as Microsoft Photos and File Explorer, to decode JPEG XL images.

You can also set JPEG XL images as a desktop background and open JPEG XL images in Windows Media Player Legacy.
