Microsoft OneDrive is a cloud storage service for photos, videos, documents, and other files. The Android app provides access to your content from a phone, tablet, computer, or web browser and keeps changes available across connected devices.

A free Microsoft account includes 5 GB of cloud storage. Additional space and premium features are available through Microsoft 365 plans.

Key Features of OneDrive

  • Upload photos, videos, documents, and other files to the cloud.

  • Automatically back up new camera photos and videos.

  • Access content on different devices with one Microsoft account.

  • Make selected files available offline.

  • Create folders and move, rename, or delete files.

  • Share files and folders with other people through links.

  • Receive notifications when shared documents are edited.

  • Search for documents by their name or content.

  • Find photos based on the objects or locations shown in them.

  • View version history and restore an earlier file version.

  • Browse automatically organized photo memories and collections.

Photo and Video Backup

Camera Upload can automatically copy new photos and videos from an Android device to OneDrive. Uploaded items then become available on other devices signed in to the same Microsoft account.

Before enabling automatic backup, users can review which folders should be uploaded, whether mobile data may be used, and how much cloud storage remains.

Microsoft 365 Document Support

OneDrive stores Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and OneNote notebooks. With the appropriate Microsoft apps, users can open, edit, and collaborate on these files. Saved changes are synchronized so other participants can access the latest version.

Mobile Document Scanner

The built-in scanner can capture paper documents, receipts, notes, and whiteboards. Scans can be cropped, marked up, signed, and saved directly to OneDrive. The app also supports scanning multi-page documents in a single session.

Security and Personal Vault

OneDrive files are encrypted while stored and during transfer. Particularly sensitive content can be placed in Personal Vault, which requires an additional identity check such as a fingerprint, face recognition, PIN, Microsoft Authenticator, or a one-time code.

Personal Vault automatically locks after a period of inactivity. The number of files that can be stored there may be limited without a qualifying subscription.

Free Storage and Microsoft 365 Plans

A free Microsoft account provides 5 GB of storage. Depending on the selected Microsoft 365 plan, users may receive 100 GB, 1 TB for one person, or up to 1 TB for each member of a family plan.

Premium plans may also include advanced sharing links, ransomware recovery, higher sharing limits, and Copilot features.

How to Install Microsoft OneDrive

  1. Select the “Download” button on this page.

  2. When the store opens, select “Install” or “Update.”

  3. Open OneDrive after the installation is complete.

  4. Sign in with a Microsoft account or create a new one.

The app is free to install but offers optional purchases and subscriptions. An internet connection is required for synchronization, automatic backup, and uploading new files.
