SmartThings for Android: Control Your Smart Home

SmartThings brings compatible smart-home devices together in one Android app. Use it to check and control devices such as Samsung TVs and appliances, and products from supported brands including Ring, Nest and Philips Hue. It is suited to people who want one place to manage connected devices at home.

What you can do with SmartThings

• Check and control devices: View device status and manage your connected devices, including when you are away from home.
• Create routines: Set actions to run based on time, weather or a device’s status, so recurring tasks can happen automatically.
• Share access: Give other users permission to control shared devices.
• Receive notifications: Get automated status updates about devices and SmartThings features.
• Use voice assistants: Control supported smart devices with Alexa, Bixby or Google Assistant.

Compatibility and permissions

SmartThings is optimised for Samsung smartphones, and some features may be limited on phones from other manufacturers. Some mobile devices may not be supported; the listed memory requirement is at least 3 GB. Feature availability can also vary by country.

The app can be used without optional permissions, although some functions may then be limited. Depending on what you use, it may request access such as location or nearby devices for device discovery and location-based routines, notifications for alerts, or camera access to scan QR codes. Other optional permissions support specific media, calling, contact or activity features.

SmartThings is also available on Wear OS watches. The watch must be connected to a mobile phone, and it can provide quick access to routines and device controls.
